Resident Injured In Bernardsville House Fire

Volunteer firefighters from Bernardsville, Basking Ridge, Liberty Corner, Far Hills-Bedminster helped to extinguish the fire on Thursday.

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — A resident was taken to a hospital for injuries following a house fire in Bernardsville on Thursday night, said Bernardsville Police Captain Daniel Buttel.

On April 18 at around 6:32 p.m. Bernardsville Police were called to a structure fire on Maple Village Court where they saw the caller outside the home.

Police also found one more resident inside the home and escorted them to a safe location, said Buttel.

Flames inside a chimney access panel were found on the second floor by police before turning the scene over to the Bernardsville Fire Department.

Firefighters also found flames inside the walls and void spaces of the fireplace chimney, according to Bernardsville Fire Co. No. 1 & First Aid Squad.

"This fire was a stubborn one as it had extended into walls and ceilings of adjoining rooms," said Bernardsville Fire.

Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department said they sent one crew onto the roof to ventilate while one crew set up ladders and then went into the structure to provide additional support to Bernardsville's first engine crew on extinguishment.

The fire was brought under control by 7:59 p.m.

One resident was treated by the Bernardsville first aid squad and taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital for minor injuries, said Buttel.

Other departments that helped included Liberty Corner Fire Company and Basking Ridge Fire Co. No 1 & EMS.
