Ridge Boys Win 5th Consecutive Somerset County Relay Championship

The Ridge Track and Field team went to The Bubble Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Toms River for the Somerset County Relays on Friday.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — On Friday, the Ridge Track and Field team traveled to The Bubble Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Toms River for the Somerset County Relays. Despite some key absences in the roster, the boys fought hard to win the meet for the 5th year in a row, and the girls performed well in several events.

The boys placed first in the shuttle hurdle relay and the 4x800. Matthew Fukushima (Senior), Kaleb Huang (Junior), Edward Condolon (Senior) and Brenden McMahon (Junior) took home the win in the 4x800 for Ridge. The boys’ shuttle hurdle time of 32.78 broke Ridge’s school record after 16 years and is currently the 4th fastest time in the state for this event.

On the relay was Owen Mays (Senior), Joseph Dachnowicz (Junior), Jared Rascio (Junior) and Jacob Medenilla (Freshman) who stepped up and ran well to secure the win. Jared Rascio also competed in the 4x200, high jump, and 4x400, helping the team score in all 4 of those events.

The boys also placed 2nd in the 4x400 relay, the sprint medley relay, the distance medley relay, the high jump relay, and the shot put relay. The boys captured the title over Hillsborough, winning 64-52.

The girls also won the 4x800, running 9:52 to win by over 30 seconds. On the relay were Rachel Biondo (Sophomore), Elayna Douglas (Senior), Katharine Frank (Senior), Ryan Ireland (Junior). The girls also placed 3rd in the 4x400 and 4th in the sprint medley relay.
