Ridge High School Student Hit By Car While In Crosswalk, Injured: Cops

The Bernardsville driver was issued summonses for careless driving and failing to stop for a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A 16-year-old Ridge High School student was hit by a car while crossing the road in a marked crosswalk last week.

On Nov. 22 at 11:51 a.m., the female student said she saw the white "walk" signal illuminated and began crossing Lake Road when out of nowhere she was hit by a Toyota FJ Cruiser driven by Declan O'Dea, 19, of Bernardsville, according to the Bernards Township Police report.

O'Dea was making a left turn from S Finley Avenue onto Lake Road following a green traffic signal when he hit the student, according to the report.

O'Dea said that he was turning left and paying attention to the oncoming vehicles as he did not have a green arrow. As he was approaching the crosswalk he said that he did not see the pedestrian before the crash, according to the report.

The student suffered injuries to her left ankle and was taken to Morristown Hospital.
