Routine Traffic Stop For Failure To Keep Right Reveals Hundreds of Counterfeit Goods

Officer Alexander McKnight was granted consent to search the vehicle, which turned out to have several hundred counterfeit designer handbags.

According to a recently released police report, a routine traffic stop by a Bernards Police officer last weekend led to a search and recovery of several hundred counterfeit goods.

On July 3 at 5 a.m. Bernards Officer Alexander McKnight stopped a 2008 Ford van on Route 78 west bound for failure to keep right. A NJ DMV inquiry indicated that the vehicle's NJ registration was suspended, according to the police report.

While speaking to the driver of the van, Baofeng Huang, McKnight observed several  black plastic garbage bags piled from the floor to the ceiling in the back of the van.

McKnight questioned Huang who admitted that he was driving to a flea market to sell handbags. The officer suspected that the handbags may be counterfeit and requested consent to search the van. Consent was granted and McKnight located several hundred handbags.

Huang admitted that the hand bags were counterfeit as well as multiple, additional items of merchandise such as wallets and jewelry. Manufactures included: Dolce, Gabbana, Jimmy Choo, Coach, Prada, Versace and several others. Huang admitted to purchasing the hand bags for $18 and was hoping to sell them for $25 at a flea market, according to the police report.

Huang, a 24-year old male from Corona, NY, was charged with trademark counterfeiting, criminal simulation, failure to keep right and suspended registration. No bail was set for the defendant and he was released on own recognizance.
