The delta variant is causing positive coronavirus cases to rise again. Here's the town-by-town case growth rate in Somerset County.
SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Somerset County and New Jersey continue to see an uptick in coronavirus cases. But what does that mean for each town? (See town-by-town totals below.)
The county averaged 49 new cases per day in the past week, while averaging 33 new daily cases the prior week, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.
Despite the recent growth in new cases, that may mean only a few new infections a week in certain towns — or none in smaller municipalities.

New Jersey Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said on Monday physicians around the state are concerned about the rising rate of hospitalizations from COVID-19 and the threat of the highly transmissible delta variant. Read More: Rise In Child COVID Hospitalizations Prompts Vaccination Plea
There were 13 children hospitalized with COVID-19 in New Jersey including two in the intensive care unit, said Persichilli.

Some New Jersey hospitals are already preparing for a surge in pediatric COVID-19 cases with students returning to school in a matter of weeks. Read More: NJ Hospital Preps For COVID Surge As Kids Set To Return To School
Dr. Amisha Malhotra, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at The Bristol-Myers Squib Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, said they are "ready for pediatric COVID patients if they need to be hospitalized, as we were last year, when we did see a surge."
Somerset County and all of North and Central Jersey have "moderate" COVID activity, according to New Jersey's latest weekly report. The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses.

- North Plainfield Borough - 17 cases
- Peapack-Gladstone Borough - 6 cases
- Raritan Borough - 14 cases
- Rocky Hill Borough - 0 cases
- Somerville Borough - 9 cases
- South Bound Brook Borough - 6 cases
- Warren Township - 13 cases
