Senator Thompson Issues Letter Of Commendation To I-78 Hero
The Senate and General Assembly praised Barry Whalen for his "heroic actions in boldly saving the life of another human."

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Republican Senator Samuel D. Thompson (District 12) has issued a letter of commendation to Barry Whalen after hearing of his incredible and heroic story of saving an unconscious woman's life by pulling her from a burning car following a crash on I-78 in Basking Ridge on Sept. 16.
"I wanted to recognize you for your bravery and heroic actions to save the life of Renu Rajnarayan after her car caught on fire on 1-78. It was touching to read about the account on September 17 in a Patch article," Senator Thompson wrote in his letter. "It was incredible to read that you were approaching the vehicle, as it was burning — and you were able to get her out of the vehicle at the right moment. I applaud you for your sense of humanity and the composure you must have demonstrated to save Ms. Rajnarayan's life. Once again, I believe your actions are a testament to the quality person that you are. On behalf of the citizens of the 12th Legislative District, we are grateful for your heroic and selfless act."
Thompson also issued a citation on behalf of the Senate and General Assembly praising Whalen for his "heroic actions in boldly saving the life of another human being without reservation or hesitance."
