Sipping The Somerset Hills: A History And Virtual Pub Crawl Event

Mr. Local History's event offers stories and insights into the area's people and social practices from colonial times to the present.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ —Mr. Local History is hosting the "Sipping The Somerset Hills" fundraising event where locals can enjoy a taste of history coupled with actual tastings of pub and tavern beverages at a unique "virtual pub crawl" without leaving their seats.

The program highlights the history of the Somerset Hills area and its taverns, samples of historic concoctions, and a look at the social and business aspects of alcohol in the area over the centuries.

Led by local historians Brooks Betz and Meg Wastie, this event offers captivating stories and insights into the area's people and social practices from colonial times to the present.

Through their extensive research, guests will gain a deeper understanding of the role of alcohol in the community throughout the centuries.

As part of the pub crawl, guests can taste samples of drinks from the past, including mead, metheglin, flips, and toddies. These small tastings will transport guests back in time and give them a true sense of the flavors enjoyed by ancestors.

Additionally, come meet author and speaker Michael Gabriele as he shares his new book Colonial Taverns of New Jersey. Autographed copies will be available for purchase.

The event will be held on Sunday. Oct. 1 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Delicious Heights Tavern, 285 Main St., Bedminster.

The Mr. Local History project’s mission is to promote and preserve local history with a social twist. Based in the Somerset Hills, an area in northern Somerset County, New Jersey, the project is an all-volunteer registered 501c3 non-profit that creates social and educational programs and activities that strive to engage and educate in fun new ways throughout our beautiful and historic “Garden State.”
