“Research shows that each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon," Health Officer, Lucy Forgione stated in a release. "According to the American Cancer Society, melanoma accounts for only a small percentage of skin cancers, but it’s much more likely to grow and spread to other parts of the body, where it can be hard to treat. Melanoma is almost always curable when it’s found in very early stages.”
The screening is conducted by a board certified dermatologist, will include a full body exam, and prevention information in conjunction with the guidelines from the American Academy of Dermatology. All participants will receive a copy of their screening results.
