Sleepy Hollow At Farmstead Arts In Basking Ridge, Oct. 24 And 25

Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to Be Performed in the18th century English Barn at Farmstead Arts October 24 and 25.

Basking Ridge, NJ Farmstead Arts will present The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on Friday and Saturday, October 24 & 25 at 7 pm as the inaugural theater production in the historic 18th century English Barn on the grounds of the Kennedy Martin Stelle Farmstead, 450 King George Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ. The play, by Cristopher Cook based on Washington Irving’s classic haunting tale, will be performed by The Farmstead Players under the direction of William Ward. Tickets for this family-friendly event are $15 for adults and $10 for children, seniors and members and can be purchased in advance online through FarmsteadArtCenter.org, or at the door. The two opening performances, October 17 and 18 were sold out.

Mr. Ward, a Bernards resident and long-time professional actor, said he is delighted to be associated with the historic site and even more excited to be directing the first theatrical performance in newly restored English Barn. As Ward explained “Using barns as theater spaces is a rich tradition in the United States. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was a perfect choice for the season and the historic colonial site. Washington Irving’s funny and macabre story about Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman takes place in 1795, the same time the Farmstead was a working farm. The barn at night adds just the right atmosphere for this Halloween folk tale.”

Presented by a talented inter-generational cast of aspiring professional actors, students and community actors, The Farmstead Players have been performing together at Farmstead Arts Center for 18 months, giving monthly readings of classic plays. Volunteers who are willing to take tickets at the door or help direct parking on one or more evenings from 6:15 – 7:15 may see the show for free.
