Smash Pumpkins In Basking Ridge And Help The Environment
Residents can smash and toss pumpkins as a way to de-stress while helping the environment.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Bernards Township Environmental Commission is hosting a Pumpkin Smash on Friday, Nov. 5 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Dogwood Farms in Liberty Corner.
The event offers residents a way to dispose of their pumpkins in a productive way.
"This is a great crossover Environmental/Agriculture event that costs very little money, helps the environment, relieves stress (hopefully) and is just good fun! It is my vision that we can rotate to other local farms to host every year, should they want to," said Debra DeWitt, Chair of the Bernards Township Environmental Commission.

- Avoid landfill greenhouse gas emissions from decomposing organics (currently landfills are the 3rd largest producers of methane in the US)
- Produce useful, nutrient-dense soil amendment
- Pumpkins are 90% water which is great for our soil (not so good for landfills)
This program is sponsored by the Bernards Township Library, Bernards Township Environmental Commission, Bernards Township Health Department, Dogwood Farms, Bernards Township Municipal Alliance & Youth Services Commission, the Governors Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse and the Somerset County Board of County Commissioners.
