Somerset County To Hold Workshop On Impact Of Violence & Trauma On Kids & Teens

SOMERVILLE –Youth are exposed to violence through the news, social media, and community discussions. How does this impact their well-being? Freeholder Director Shanel Y. Robinson invites parents, guardians and professionals who work with children and families to the Somerset County Youth Service’s next workshop, titled “The Impact of Violence and Trauma on our Youth” on Friday, Jan. 24.

The free workshop will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the first floor conference room at the Somerset County Human Services Building, located at 27 Warren Street. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their own coffee and snacks. Free parking is available in the adjacent parking deck, third level or higher. Walk-ins are welcome.

Safe + Sound Somerset presenters Director of Programs, Ana Diaz, MA, MSW, LSW and Director of Clinical Services Lauren Lia, MSW, LCSW will discuss the impact of violence and trauma on the development of youth and address appropriate interventions. They also will cover how to identify symptoms of anxiety, depression, substance use and suicidal ideation; share information about community resources and discuss current trends.
