Somerset County Services Continue
The County Clerk's Office, Election Board and the Surrogate's Office will remain open.

SOMERVILLE- Although most Somerset County facilities will be closed for the safety of the public beginning Wednesday, March 18, county offices will remain operational, including the County Clerk’s Office, the Election Board and the Surrogate’s Office. All three offices are located in the lobby of the county Administration Building at 20 Grove St.

Members of the public will not be admitted into county facilities. Somerset County Sheriff’s Officers will be stationed at entrances in all county facilities to answer questions and accept documents being dropped off for Constitutional Offices and the Election Board.

Services provided by the County Clerk’s Office include recording land records and related legal documents, processing passport applications, recording trade/business name certificates, filing military discharges, issuing Vote By Mail ballots, tabulating election returns and issuing certificates of election.
For the safety of residents and staff, the records room and passport counter will be closed. Recording will continue for documents received by mail and e-recording, and Vote By Mail applications will continue to be processed. Land record searches can be conducted online by visiting the County Clerk’s Office website or calling 908-231-7013. Office hours are 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Election Board oversees all legislative and school board elections in Somerset County. It is responsible for registering new voters, recording party affiliations, maintaining the accuracy of voter records and storing voting machines.
Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. While county facilities are closed, the Board of Elections can be reached at 908-231-7084 or ElectionBd@co.somerset.nj.us.
The Surrogate’s Office probates wills, qualifies executors and trustees, and issues documents pertaining to administering estates. It also serves as custodian of funds belonging to a minor’s estates until the individual reaches maturity, processes mental incompetency and conservatorships, and handles all adoptions.
Staff will continue to provide services via telephone, internet and regular mail. Emergency situations will be handled on a case by case basis.
