Speed Humps, New Stop Signs To Be Installed At Spring Valley Intersection

The proposed changes are to help avoid future accidents and improve safety at the intersection of Spring Valley Boulevard and Acken Road.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — To improve safety at the intersection of Spring Valley Boulevard and Acken Road, new speed humps and stop signs are being installed.

The resolution for the design of the Spring Valley Boulevard Traffic Calming at Acken Road was approved at the Aug. 29 committee meeting. And construction is going on now.

  • Removing the stop signs from Spring Valley Boulevard and place stop signs on Acken Road
  • Add speed humps on Spring Valley
  • Change the striping on Spring Valley to make the road at the intersection one lane
  • Add flashing beacons on the new stop signs on Acken Road
  • Add two new solar LED lights at the intersection to enhance visibility

Bernards Township Engineer Tom Timko initially made a presentation at a meeting in August 2016 assessing the current intersection and some proposed changes to avoid future accidents.

A total of about 5,000 cars go through this intersection every day, according to Timko.

Since 2012, there have been 10 accidents at the intersection, including four roll-over accidents with injuries.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of October.
