The Week Ahead: Macbeth, the Beatles and More

The last summer concert of the year and other entertainment options from July 26 - August 1.

After a four week run, the summer concert series in Basking Ridge comes to a close with the marquee event of not only the series, but entertainment options in town this week – Beatlemania in Pleasant Valley Park.

A handful of other summer staples (movie night: Monsters vs. Aliens) and the debut of the second play in the park, "Macbeth," highlight a great week in town. All of the events listed are free.

  • Interactive Science Show - Bernards Township Library, 7:30 - 8:15 p.m.
    Andrew Piccirillo leads an action-packed, interactive science show for kids called, "Pirates: The Curse of the Mutating Hand." Children learn about liquid and denisity while being entertained. Tuesday, July 27

  • Flicks and Sticks - Bernards Township Library, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
    Monthly knitting, crocheting and needlework program meets for needlework and a movie. The film for this month will be Did you Hear About the Morgans, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant.
  • Beatlemania Again - Pleasant Valley Park, 7 p.m.
    Nationally touring Beatles tribute band, Beatlemania Again will play an outdoor concert at night in the park. Beatlemania Again is known for their stage show in which they retrace the career path of the Beatles, from the Ed Sullivan show to the Sgt. Pepper era and to the final Abbey Road years.

  • Teen Boardwalk Game Night, Bernards Township Library, 7-8 p.m.
    Enjoy playing Boardwalk carnival games the old-fashioned way and on the Nintendo Wii as teens discuss "Dunk," one of the books enjoyed by the "One-Book" reading program at the library. More info here.
  • Monsters vs. Aliens, Pleasant Valley Park, 8:45 p.m.
    Dreamworks' Monsters vs. Aliens is the next in a line of summer movies nights in the park. Bring chairs, blankets and snacks and enjoy the film on a large, outdoor movie screen. Monsters vs. Aliens is an animated comedy released in March, 2009, in which Susan Murphy (voiced by Reese Witherspoon) turns into a giant after a freak meteor shower and joins with a ragtag group of monsters to fight off an alien invasion.

Friday, July 30

  • Finding Nemo Show, Bernards Township Library, 10:30 - 11:15 a.m.
    "Splishin' and a Splashin' with Nemo" is an interactive kids program for children ages 2-10, where kids help local entertainer Jeanne DePodwin find "Nemo" from the Disney movie in a sing-a-long adventure.
  • "Macbeth," Pleasant Valley Park, 8 p.m.
    Trilogy Repertory Company's opening night performance of Shakespeare's "Macbeth." The local production is the second of two performances in the "Plays in the Park" series, a 23-year tradition in Bernards. More info about the show here.

Saturday, July 31

  • "Macbeth," Pleasant Valley Park, 8 p.m.
    The second performance of the show this week. Other performance dates include August 5, 6 and 7, all at 8 p.m.
