WAMS Hosts Third Annual International Welcome Night

Education; Schools

On Thursday September 8, 2016 at the William Annin Middle School in Basking Ridge, families new to the United States and to our community gathered together at the Third Annual International Welcome Night.

The event, organized by Ms. Kathy Stotler for the past two years, was hosted this year by Ms. Bowman, the interim Supervisor of World Language and Ms. Bologno, one of the Italian teachers at Ridge High School.
Families were provided with relevant academic information about our school district and services available in our community. The ESL educators, Debra Schwartz, Jami Koppes, and Valerie Cetrulo had the opportunity to meet their new students and their families. Various local organizations attended the event including Ms. Chris Corrigan and Ms. Alyson McCauley, Co-Presidents of the Ridge High School PTO, Ms. Karen Vaias from the Bernards public library, and Ms. Susan Englelstein from the Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County.
Several Ridge High School students, members of the World Language Club, Lauren Schottenfeld, Catherine Pankow, Natalia Castner, Marlo Smith, Olivia Reimer, Asha Krishnan, Rachel Coyle, and William Snyder contributed to the success of the night, by entertaining the children and assisting all participants navigating the school websites.

All participants, parents, and children enjoyed learning about the services and initiatives in our community and in our school and had fun participating in the activities and receiving special prizes from the various organizations.
