Warren Artist Wants Locals To Come ‘Play With Clay’

Artist and Warren local, Debbie Limoli, is sharing her passion with locals as she begins offering clay classes in Basking Ridge.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Artist and Warren local, Debbie Limoli, is sharing her passion with locals as she begins offering clay classes in Basking Ridge.

“I’ve always loved making three-dimensional things with my hands,” Limoli said. “As a kid I always loved doing it. With clay you can change it, shape it and turn it any way you want. It is very forgiving.”

From the earliest of ages, she could take a piece of Play-Doh, twist it in her fingers and create an animal sculpture with personality. She was drawn to all stray and orphaned animals, so her clay passion was a combination of the two.

Limoli bought her own kiln five years go and began going to classes to learn more about clay. This sparked her passion even more and she was able to turn her earliest fascination for making animal figures out of play clay into a career in ceramic sculpture.

Her artworks are called Custom Critters By Deb, which display her passion for all creatures of nature. All of her sculptures are done in her home studio.

Her work has since been displayed and sold at galleries and art shows in Princeton, Warren, New Hope, Saratoga and the Adirondacks.

Now Limoli wants to share her passion with others. She started offering Play With Clay Classes at the Farmstead Arts Center at 450 King George Road, in Basking Ridge.

The classes are open to all experience levels on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6 to 10 p.m., but times and dates are flexible. All of the materials and kiln firing are included. Limoli also offers private classes in your home or for a group.

“I want (participants) to de-stress and enjoy themselves,” Limoli said. “They can make functional pieces that can be given as a gift or just about anything just as jewelry, plates, Minecraft figures.”
