WATCH: Mt. Prospect Students Celebrate Arbor Day

100 Pine saplings were given to Mount Prospect students by the Shade Tree Commission in honor of Arbor Day.

Basking Ridge, NJ -- Mount Prospect third grade students celebrated Arbor Day with a special tree planting ceremony.

The students gathered in a grassy area outside with Principal Joanne Hozney and town officials John Malay and John Carpenter to celebrate the special day.

Students -- Aayush Bhakey, Amelie Gurvits, Ethan Law, Albert Yang and Kelli Chang -- each read the Bernards Township's resolution proclaiming April 29, 2016 as Arbor Day in town.

The town's Shade Tree Commission provided 100 pine saplings to give to each student to plant in their own backyards.

"They will grow big and strong just as you grow," Malay told students at the ceremony.

Hozney pointed to two large trees that were planted five years ago when the first Arbor Day celebration was hosted at the school.

The students then finished off the ceremony with a poem about Arbor Day. Watch it below:

Before heading back to their class, some students also requested Malay's autograph.
