17th ‘Nutley Relay For Life’ Will Benefit American Cancer Society
Relay for Life is a solidarity movement that brings together the community in the fight against cancer and celebrates and honors survivors.

Commissioner Mauro Tucci and Nutley Parks and Recreation Department recently announced details for the 17th annual Relay For Life of Nutley ‘United in Hope’ to benefit the American Cancer Society, which will take place on Friday, May 19 from 7 to 11 p.m. at DeMuro Park on Margaret Avenue.
An official kickoff celebration hosted by Tucci is slated for Thursday, Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation Department, 44 Park Avenue. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The kickoff celebration, free of charge and open to the public, is a fantastic way to rally together and create excitement within the community while learning more information about Relay For Life on May 19.
Robert Frannicola of Ultimate Entertainment will provide the music at Kickoff, Ralph's Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant will cater the dinner, and Dunkin’ of Washington Avenue will serve dessert. People interested in attending the kickoff on Feb. 2 are asked to RSVP to halle.baker@cancer.org no later than Jan. 31.

“As a community, we have raised over $1,450,000 for American Cancer Society,” Commissioner Mauro Tucci said. “Our 17th Annual Relay For Life is scheduled for Friday, May 19 at 7 p.m., and has the potential to be one of our best fundraising years ever.”
Relay For Life is a community-based fundraising event for American Cancer Society. Each year, more than 5,000 Relay For Life events take place in local communities in 20 countries.
As American Cancer Society's most successful fundraiser and the organization's signature event, the mission of Relay For Life is to raise funds to improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers.
This Relay For Life event is organized under a volunteer Relay Committee and implemented by volunteers. Currently, four million people take part in Relay events in 5,000 communities in the United States. It is estimated that Relay For Life events have raised $5 billion to date, with $1.45 million raised in Nutley since 2007.
The evening of May 19 will be filled with hope and remembrance for those affected by cancer as participants walk the DeMuro Park Track filled will luminaria bags and other unique features.

Volunteers organize a variety of fundraising activities and actions throughout the year, ranging from small events to the signature Relay event on May 19, in which you can participate as an individual or as a team.
