2 Deaths In Nutley Were ‘Medical In Nature,’ Police Say

Despite valiant efforts from emergency responders, two people died after receiving CPR. Neither death was ruled suspicious, police said.

NUTLEY, NJ — Despite “valiant efforts” from emergency responders, two people died in Nutley after receiving CPR during separate incidents earlier this month, authorities said.

According to a Nutley Police Department spokesperson, both deaths were deemed not suspicious and were “medical in nature.”

The first incident took place on March 12, when police, EMS workers and firefighters responded to Hartford Drive after getting a report about an unresponsive 54-year-old man. Emergency responders administered CPR to the man, but he was later pronounced deceased, authorities said.

The second incident took place on March 13, when police responded to a home on Humbert Street after getting a report about a 41-year-old woman who wasn’t breathing. On arrival, officers found a friend of the woman providing CPR. Emergency responders took over and gave the woman life-saving measures until the woman regained a pulse, but she was later pronounced deceased by a doctor, authorities said.
