2023 Belleville Town Budget: Vote, Hearing Scheduled For June

The proposed spending plan would mean a tax increase for local homeowners, a Belleville official previously said.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Want to make your voice heard on this year’s municipal budget in Belleville? Mark Tuesday, June 27 down on your calendar.

Belleville officials will hold a public hearing on the proposed town budget and tax resolution at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 152 Washington Avenue.

The budget can be viewed online here. Copies are also available in the office of municipal clerk at Town Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Belleville township manager Anthony Iacono said the $77.2 million spending plan is up about $1 million from last year. Local property owners with a home assessed at $278,000 would see an increase of $89 to the municipal portion of their taxes.

Property taxes in New Jersey are made up of three parts: school, municipal and county. Here’s how that played out in Belleville last year:

  • School – 38.8%
  • Municipal – 48%
  • County – 13.2%

The Belleville Board of Education voted to approve the 2023-2024 spending plan during their recent meeting. Watch the video here, and see the district’s budget presentation here.

According to district administrators, the budget will mean a tax levy increase of 2.02 percent. Local property owners with a home assessed at $ 278,700 would see an increase of $81 to the school portion of their taxes.
