BELLEVILLE-NUTLEY, NJ — There are plenty of ways to celebrate the 2023 winter holidays in Belleville and Nutley, including several local events and attractions.
Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish festival of lights, starts at sundown on Dec. 7 and ends at nightfall on Dec. 15. Christmas will follow on Dec. 25.
You don’t have to wait to start taking in all the sights and sounds of the season in Belleville and Nutley, however.

Nutley's 2023 tree lighting event is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Nutley Park Oval. Activities and holiday music will take place beginning at 4:30 p.m. along Franklin Avenue in front of John H. Walker Middle School. For more information, contact 973-284-4984.
Belleville's annual tree lighting event will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Belleville High School. The rain date is Dec. 10. The tree lighting is scheduled for 8 p.m. Other attractions will include trackless train rides, music and food, a candy cane maze, Christmas carolers, face painting, horse and carriage rides and photos with Santa. Christmas parades, often complete with Santa Claus, festively decorated floats and marching bands, are another holiday tradition, both nationally and locally.
Attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade is a bucket list item for many families. If you can’t be in New York City, the parade will be livestreamed on NBC and Peacock, the network’s streaming service, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
