2023 Primary Election Nears In Belleville, Nutley: Register To Vote

The 2023 primary election is just around the bend for New Jersey voters, including those in Belleville and Nutley.

BELLEVILLE-NUTLEY, NJ — The 2023 primary election is just around the bend for New Jersey voters, including those in Belleville and Nutley.

Tuesday, May 16 is the last day to register to vote in the primary election taking place in New Jersey on June 6. The last day to apply by mail for a vote-by-mail ballot is May 30.

In December 2021, the state underwent redistricting, as required by law every 10 years. As a result, some towns – including Belleville – were placed in different districts. Read more about the purpose of redistricting here.

Nutley is located in the 11th Congressional District and the 34 Legislative District.

Belleville moved to the 11th Congressional District after previously being located in the 8th District. The town also moved to the 34th Legislative District after previously being located in the 29th District.

NEW JERSEY LEGISLATURE

New Jersey Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake is running for a state senator seat this year in the 34th Legislative District alongside Michael Venezia, the mayor of Bloomfield, and Carmen Morales, a Belleville resident employed as a school principal in Newark. All three have captured the Democratic Party line.

No Republicans filed to run for senate in the 34th District’s primary election. But two candidates – Clenard H. Childress Jr. of East Orange and James McGuire of Nutley – are running unopposed for the Republican party nod in the assembly.

The winners of the 2023 primary election will gain their party’s nomination for the general election on Nov. 7.
