28 Batteries Stolen From ATT Cellular Site In Nutley: Police

A similar theft was reported in Cedar Grove in March, police say.

Nutley, NJ – Is there a serial battery thief loose in Essex County?

Nutley police responded to Cook Road to take a theft report at the AT&T cellular site on April 15. According to police, 28 batteries valued at $500 each were allegedly stolen from the property.

Police stated that in addition to the stolen batteries, the property was discovered unlocked and five locks with passcodes were also found to be missing.

Each battery weighs about 119 pounds, police said.

The area was secured with new locks and Nutley police detectives were notified of the incident.

While unusual, the alleged battery theft isn’t the only such incident in recent Essex County history.

In March, Cedar Grove police reported that an unknown suspect stole eight backup batteries from the AT&T cellular tower site behind 93 Pompton Avenue.

The value of the batteries was estimated at $4,320, police said.
