NUTLEY, NJ — A “test drive” on a dirt bike recently turned into a vehicle theft in Nutley, police say.
According to the Nutley Police Department, officers responded to Centre Street on May 16 after getting a report about a motor vehicle theft.
The victim told officers that they listed their Yamaha dirt bike for sale on a social media marketplace app. They began communicating with a potential buyer and agreed to meet outside a bank on Centre Street to make the sale.
The buyer arrived on foot and asked to test drive the dirt bike. Here’s what happened next, police say:
“The victim stated the male party then placed what they believed to be money in the glove box of their pickup truck and drove away with the dirt bike, never returning.”
The detective bureau was notified of the incident, police said.
