BELLEVILLE, NJ — A Belleville police officer who has been on the force for less than a year distinguished himself with sound judgement – and decisive action – during a recent incident in town, authorities say.
The Belleville Police Department has selected Paul Poplawski as its "Officer of the Month" for July 2026.
Here's why Poplawski earned bragging rights this month, the BPD said:
"Officer Poplawski earned this recognition for his professionalism, sound judgment, and decisive actions during a recent incident that resulted in the safe apprehension of a suspect and the recovery of a firearm. Throughout the investigation, he remained calm, composed, and focused, demonstrating the qualities expected of a Belleville police officer. Although he has been with the department for less than a year, Officer Poplawski has already established himself as a dependable officer who consistently displays professionalism, dedication, and a strong commitment to serving our community."
"Please join us in congratulating Officer Paul Poplawski on this well-deserved recognition," the BPD said. "Thank you for your outstanding service and dedication to the Township of Belleville."
