Busy Belleville Road Is Getting Some Traffic Safety Upgrades

A Belleville street is seeing some safety improvements, including an extra stop sign. More renovations are in the works, an official says.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — A busy road in Belleville recently got some traffic safety upgrades.

Mayor Frank Vélez gave an update last week about several improvements that have been done on Greylock Parkway, or which are in the pipeline for future work.

"Over the past several days, residents have reached out to express concerns about pedestrian safety on Greylock Parkway – and we've been listening," he reported.

"The deputy mayor, township manager, police chief, township professionals and I met with residents on Greylock Parkway to hear their concerns, discuss future plans and identify immediate steps to improve safety," Vélez said.

According to the mayor, some of those steps include:

STOP SIGNS – The township has installed an additional stop sign in the median [at the intersection with Nolton Street] and refreshed the pavement markings at nearby stop signs to improve visibility and enhance pedestrian safety.
FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS – The township recently secured grant funding to renovate Greylock Parkway with significant safety improvements, including raised intersections, enhanced streetscape beautification, redesigned medians, upgraded crosswalks and other traffic-calming measures.

"This is an important first step, and we will continue working to make our streets safer for everyone throughout Belleville," Vélez said.

"Thank you to the residents who brought these concerns to our attention and for continuing to partner with us as we work to improve our community," the mayor added.
