BELLEVILLE, NJ -- It's training that the Belleville Public School District hopes is never needed.
Local emergency responders held a hands-on active shooter emergency response training at Belleville High School last week.
The school district shared the following message about the training:
"This week, Belleville Public Schools, the Belleville Police Department, and the Belleville Fire Department came together for intensive, hands-on active shooter emergency response training at Belleville High School.
"Led by Captain John McAloon of the Belleville Police Department, Tina Iaccheo, Assistant Superintendent of Business and Dr. Matthew Sullivan, Director of District Safety and Security, the training placed first responders and school officials into realistic, real-time scenarios designed to strengthen communication, coordination, decision-making, and emergency response.
"The exercises were intentionally hands-on, engaging, and realistic, giving participants the opportunity to work through the types of complex situations that require multiple agencies to respond together quickly and effectively.
"We hope these skills are never needed—but preparedness cannot begin when an emergency happens. Training together now helps ensure that our schools and first responders know how to work together when every second matters.
"We are incredibly grateful to the men and women of the Belleville Police Department and Belleville Fire Department for their time, expertise, and continued partnership with our schools.
"One community. One team. One shared priority: keeping Belleville safe."
