NUTLEY, NJ — Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Nutley recently unveiled a new statue of St. Carlo Acutis: the first millennial saint.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the marble statute included a blessing from Bishop Manuel A. Cruz outside the church. Cruz also celebrated a Mass in honor of Acutis, who cataloged over 100 "Eucharistic miracles" on a website he created before his 2006 death from leukemia at the age of 15.
In his homily, Cruz praised the tech-savvy teen for using the tools of his generation to benefit his community. He heralded Acutis as someone who demonstrated that one does not need to be a priest to be "holy."
The public is welcome to visit the statue and the parish, which has a first-class relic of Acutis on permanent display.
