Attempted Carjacking In Nutley; Driver Hits Owner, Flees: Police

A car owner was hit while trying to stop a theft. The suspect jumped out of the car and ran away – here's what happened next, police said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A car owner suffered minor injuries while trying to stop an attempted carjacking last week, Nutley police say.

The Nutley Police Department released the following statement about the incident, which took place on Darling Avenue on July 24:

“Several units responded to the area on a report of a carjacking. The victim stated that they parked their vehicle and accidentally left it on while entering the store. While inside, the victim observed their car reversing out of the parking spot. The victim ran outside and was struck by the vehicle ... The suspect jumped out, ran north on Darling Avenue, and entered a stolen Audi Q5.”

A Nutley EMS crew treated the victim for minor injuries, authorities said.
