BELLEVILLE, NJ — A pair of sisters from Belleville recently continued their mission to make the world a better place with the latest installment of their “Wave of Positivity” campaign.

Over the Labor Day weekend, Selena Kossup, a student at Seton Hall University, and Sabrina Kossup, a student at Paramus Catholic High School, handed out more than 100 free back-to-school packages to local students and organizations.

The siblings saved up to purchase the school supplies this summer, putting together a super-useful collection of pencils, crayons, notebooks, scissors, markers, color pencils, glue and pencil sharpeners.

On Sunday, the Kossup sisters distributed the packages outside a local restaurant, The Brunch Box at 528 Joralemon Street, which provided water, juice, and snacks for the students and families that visited.

This weekend’s back-to-school giveaway isn’t the first time that the Kossups have devoted their spare time to boosting their community.

When the coronavirus pandemic hit in 2020, the sisters raised almost $4,000 in May 2020 selling lawn signs, using the proceeds to buy masks, gloves, sanitizer and other personal protective equipment for the local fire and police departments. The siblings also used some of their fundraising proceeds to buy lunch for health care workers at Clara Maass Medical Center.

Since then, the Kossups have distributed U.S. flags supported by the American Legion Post 105, hosted food drives for St. Peter’s Church, Little Zion U.A.M.E Church and local families in need, and supported the Women’s Club of Belleville, among other good deeds.

Their next event will be in November 2023 collecting hats, gloves, and scarves for distribution through Little Zion U.A.M.E Church.
