Belleville Cop Has Aided With Several Arrests, Earns Nod As ‘Officer Of Month’

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The Belleville Police Department is tipping its cap to a local officer who has aided with several arrests and investigations, including a recent burglary and foot chase.

The department has announced Gabriel Curiel as its “Officer of the Month” for August 2026.

According to the BPD, Curiel earned the recognition for his “continued professionalism, determination and commitment to keeping our community safe.”

During the month of August, his attention to detail and proactive police work played an important role in several investigations and arrests, the BPD said:

“Most notably, Officer Curiel responded to a domestic violence burglary in which the suspect had fled the scene. Through diligent follow-up and investigation, Officer Curiel located the suspect’s vehicle and ultimately apprehended the individual after a brief foot pursuit. His efforts helped bring a dangerous situation to a safe conclusion and provided the victim and her children with a sense of security following a traumatic incident.”

“Officer Curiel has also assisted in numerous other arrests and investigations throughout our community,” the department continued, praising the local cop’s “work ethic, courage and willingness to take initiative.”

“Beyond his work on patrol, Officer Curiel continues to pursue training opportunities and maintains a high level of physical fitness and readiness to respond whenever called upon,” the BPD added.
