Belleville Cops Arrest 2 After Car Chase, Crash

The chase began near Overlook and Washington Avenues, Belleville police said.

Belleville, NJ – Belleville police arrested two suspects who led officers on a vehicle chase through town on March 22.

According to the Belleville Police Department, the incident started around 2:35 a.m., when officers saw a car pull up to another vehicle at a dead end street near Overlook and Washington Avenues.

When the suspects allegedly began to look into nearby parked vehicles, the officers turned around and attempted to stop the car to investigate further.

At that time, the suspects pulled onto Washington Avenue and headed south, police stated.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it allegedly increased speed and fled south on Washington Avenue into Newark, authorities stated.

The chase ended when the car crashed into three parked motor vehicles, police stated.

According to police, two suspects exited the car after the crash and began to run away from the scene. Officers apprehended one suspect after a short foot chase, and located the other suspect hiding under a dump truck in a nearby parking lot.

Authorities charged Raymond Barone, 27, of Newark, with eluding and obstruction of justice, and Kirsten Crawford, 27, of Newark, with one count of obstruction.

Both Barone and Crawford also had numerous warrants from outside jurisdictions, police stated.
