Belleville Cops Break Car Window, Apprehend Driver At DWI Crash

Officers found two containers of vodka and a bottle of wine in the car, Belleville police said.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville police charged a motorist with DWI after officers broke into a car’s window in an effort to apprehend an allegedly drunk suspect last month.

According to the Belleville Police Department, officers arrived on the scene of a motor vehicle accident around 3:14 a.m. on Oct. 23 to find a Nissan Altima on the sidewalk, stuck into the side of a Honda CRV.

The officers immediately broke the window of the car in an attempt to free the driver, who they found still behind the wheel with his foot still on the gas pedal. After securing the vehicle, emergency personnel transported the driver to a local hospital with neck and back injuries, police stated in a news release.
