Belleville Cops Say Burglary Suspect Allegedly Hit Smallwood, Heckel Homes

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville police have arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of committing recent nighttime burglaries on Smallwood Avenue and Heckel Street.

According to the Belleville Police Department, the Newark resident – whose name wasn’t released as of Friday morning – allegedly committed a burglary at a Smallwood Avenue home during the evening hours of Aug. 17.

The same suspect allegedly committed a nighttime burglary at a Heckel Street home on Thursday, police said.

“As a reminder, residents should secure doors and windows when going away or going to sleep,” Belleville police stated in a news release.
