Belleville Cops Seize ‘Assault Weapon,’ Sword and Stun Gun

Belleville police arrested a pair of Essex County residents after finding several weapons in their car during a traffic stop.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville police arrested a pair of Essex County residents after finding a loaded “assault weapon,” a stun gun and a large sword in their car during a recent traffic stop, authorities say.

According to the Belleville Police Department, the arrests took place around 10:51 p.m. on Jan. 18 when officers allegedly spotted a Toyota Matrix with a cracked windshield travelling south on Watsessing Avenue without its lights on.

Authorities said that after stopping the car and approaching the occupants, the officers allegedly detected the “strong smell of marijuana.” The officers told the driver and passenger to get out of the car, then searched for marijuana.

Inside the vehicle, officers found a loaded “9 mm assault weapon” with 19 rounds of ammunition, a stun gun and a large sword, in addition to plastic baggies and a scale, police stated.

Police arrested the occupants of the car, later identified as Becky Cordero, 23, of Belleville, and Allen McAllister, 34, of Newark.

Authorities charged McAllister with possession of an assault firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a prescription legend drug and certain persons not to possess weapons.

Police transported both suspects to the Essex County Correctional Facility.
