Belleville Councilman Joe Longo Resigns

Longo's resignation comes after his employer reassigned him to South Florida.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville Township Councilman Joseph Longo has resigned from his position.

Longo’s resignation, which reportedly comes after his employer reassigned him to South Florida, will be effective on Oct. 31. Longo sent a letter of resignation to the town clerk on Sept. 5, but his resignation was not made public during the Township Council meeting on Sept. 12, NorthJersey.com reported.

Local residents and activists have criticized Longo’s recent absences from town council meetings.

According to the Belleville municipal website, Longo was a member of the Belleville Board of Education from 2008-2014. A graduate of Belleville High School, he went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. and has worked as a sales executive for a local printing company.

Longo is a former commandant of the West Hudson Detachment of the Marine Corps League, Belleville Recreation soccer and softball coach, president of the Belleville High School Music Boosters Association, president of the Belleville Visual and Performing Arts Council and president of the Belleville Vocational Education Council.
