Belleville Hospital Gets ‘High Performing’ Ratings From U.S. News

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville recently received a “high performing hospital” designation in three specialties as part of U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings.

Clara Maass hospital earned the ratings for its treatment of heart failure, kidney failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A “high performing” rating recognizes care that was “significantly better” than the national average, based on measures such as patient outcomes, including 30-day mortality, 30-day readmission, discharge to home and length of stay.

In 2022-2023, U.S. News & World Report rated the nation’s hospitals in a total of 17 Common Adult Procedures and Conditions, evaluating more than 6,000 of the nation’s health care facilities, including Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville (see its local rankings here).

The hospitals that made the final list fell into three categories: High Performing, Average or Below Average, with the majority rated as Average. Clara Maass Medical Center was one of 1,126 hospitals to receive a high performing rating for heart failure treatment; one of 1,000 hospitals to receive the designation for kidney failure treatment; and one of 1,129 hospitals to receive it for COPD treatment.

“We constantly strive for excellence and high-reliability and these ratings show how well we are able to deliver on that promise,” Clara Maass CEO Mary Ellen Clyne said.
