Belleville Issues Drinking Water Advisory For Local Residents

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville has issued a new drinking water advisory for local residents.

“Our water system violated drinking water requirements over the past year,” the township recently announced. “Even though it is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we did to correct the situation.”

Here’s what happened, the township explained:

“We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether our drinking water meets health standards. During the first half of 2024, the second half of 2024, the first half of 2025, and the second half of 2025 we did not complete all monitoring for our established Water Quality Parameters which are pH and orthophosphate. Therefore, we cannot be sure of the quality of your drinking water during that time.”

According to the town’s advisory, pH has a required sampling frequency of two samples every 14 days, the same rate for orthophosphate.

The number of required samples were taken, but a very small percentage of them weren’t taken during the required bi-weekly schedule, instead, within several days, the township said.

Belleville residents don’t need to take any action based on the advisory, the township said, adding that it intends to adhere to the monitoring schedule this year.

“However, if you have specific health concerns, a severely compromised immune system, have an infant, are pregnant or are elderly, you may be at higher risk than other individuals and should seek advice from your health care providers about drinking this water,” the advisory stated.
