Belleville Man Arrested After Alleged DWI Crash

Belleville police arrested a local man after he allegedly smashed into a parked car on Washington Avenue.

Belleville, NJ – Belleville police arrested a local man after he allegedly smashed into a parked car on Washington Avenue while intoxicated last week.

According to the Belleville Police Department, an officer on patrol allegedly saw a Ford Taurus strike the parked car around 8:25 p.m. on Dec. 6, then continue to drive south on Washington Avenue.

The officer allegedly attempted to stop the driver – later identified as Kenneth Phillips, 26, of Belleville – who was traveling “at a high speed” and passing vehicles, authorities charged.

Officers managed to stop Phillips in a parking lot near Union and Belleville Avenues, police stated.

After interviewing Phillips, officers noted that he allegedly appeared to be intoxicated and smelled of alcohol, police stated.

In addition, officers allegedly saw three open containers of Fireball Whiskey in the car, police said.

Officers arrested Phillips and charged him with driving while intoxicated, eluding and resisting arrest.
