Belleville Man Falsely Reported Stabbing To Nutley Police: Authorities

A Belleville resident is being accused of falsely reporting that he was stabbed in a Nutley park on New Year's Day, police said.

BELLEVILLE-NUTLEY, NJ — A Belleville resident is being accused of falsely reporting that he was stabbed in a Nutley park on New Year’s Day, police said.

According to a statement from the Nutley Police Department:

“Police responded to Clara Maass Medical Center [in Belleville] in response to a party that came in alleging he was stabbed in Nutley. The Belleville resident suffered a laceration to his arm and claimed he was stabbed approx. 1:30 a.m. in DeMuro Park. Detectives called to investigate the incident determined the man had been playing a game earlier with friends and was accidently stabbed, needing medical attention. Fearful of not getting his friend in trouble, he fabricated the stabbing incident in Nutley.”

Charges for false reporting are pending, Nutley police said.
