Belleville Man Fights Cops, Kicks Officer’s Groin After Noise Complaint: Police
Belleville police showed up to ask the man to turn down his music. When they smelled pot, the situation began to escalate, authorities say.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville police arrested a local man last month after officers arrived at his home on a noise complaint and ended up getting assaulted, authorities say.
According to the Belleville Police Department, officers responded to a noise complaint about loud music on Stephens Street around 11 p.m. on Nov. 13. On arrival, the officers – while standing on the street - heard music coming from an apartment in the building, authorities said.
The officers entered the building and knocked on the door to advise the tenant to lower the volume of the music. But when the tenant opened the door, the officers allegedly caught the “strong odor” of marijuana.

Police said at that time, the resident, 38-year-old Hugh Reynolds, confronted the officers and shouted obscenities at them. Reynolds then allegedly tried to push the officers down the stairs and struck one in the chest.
When police tried to arrest Reynolds, he allegedly “assumed a fighting stance” and began struggling, kicking one officer in the leg and another in the groin, authorities stated.
