Belleville Municipal Tax Increase Lower Than Expected For Homeowners
The Belleville Town Council voted to adopt the 2023 municipal budget. Here's the tax impact for local homeowners.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The Belleville Town Council voted to adopt the 2023 municipal budget during a special meeting on Monday.
The town’s spending plan will mean a municipal tax increase of $47 to the average home assessed at $278,000 – about half of what officials forecasted when the budget was introduced earlier this year. Read More: Belleville Would See Tax Increase Under Proposed Town Budget

Property taxes in New Jersey are generally made up of three parts: school, municipal and county. Here’s how that played out in Belleville last year:
- School – 38.8%
- Municipal – 48%
- County – 13.2%
The Belleville Board of Education voted to approve the 2023-2024 spending plan earlier this year. According to district administrators, the budget will mean a tax levy increase of 2.02 percent. Local property owners with a home assessed at $278,700 will see an increase of $81 to the school portion of their taxes.
