BELLEVILLE-NUTLEY, NJ — Voters in New Jersey will head to the polls on Tuesday, June 6 to cast their ballots in the 2023 primary election, including those in Belleville and Nutley.

Democratic and Republican candidates across the state are competing for their party’s nomination. The winners will advance with any independent challengers to the general election, which will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

NEW JERSEY SENATE – 34th District (Vote for 1)

  • Democrat – Britnee Timberlake
  • Republican – No petitions filed

NEW JERSEY ASSEMBLY – 34th District (Vote for 2)

  • Democrat – Michael Venezia, Carmen Morales
  • Republican – James McGuire, Clenard H. Childress Jr.

ESSEX COUNTY COMMISSIONER - AT-LARGE (Vote for 4)

  • Democrat – Patricia Sebold, Brendan Gill, Romaine Graham, Wayne Richardson, Justin Harris
  • Republican – Joseph Cifelli, Alexandra Campisi, Aristotle Popolizio, Michael Pocelinko

ESSEX COUNTY COMMISSIONER – DISTRICT 5 (Vote for 1)

  • Democrat – Carlos Pomares
  • Republican – Kristen Bloschak

ESSEX COUNTY SURROGATE

  • Democrat – Alturrick Kenny
  • Republican – Peter Russo

There are three ways to vote in the primary election:

  • Vote By Mail – Ballots must be postmarked, delivered in person to the County Board of Elections Office, or placed in a secure ballot drop box by June 6 at 8 p.m. See a list of ballot drop box locations here.
  • In Person (Early Voting) – All registered voters had the option to vote at any early voting location in the county from June 2 to June 4. Learn more here.
  • In Person (Election Day) – Polls in New Jersey will be open on June 6 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Find your local polling place here.
