Belleville Police: Man Attacks, Robs Woman Near Clara Maass Hospital

Belleville police say a male suspect allegedly attacked and robbed a woman on Belmont Avenue.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — A male suspect allegedly attacked and robbed a woman near Clara Maass Medical Center last month, pushing her to the ground and causing her head and neck injuries, police say.

According to the Belleville Police Department, the female victim told officers that a male suspect attacked her from behind on Belmont Avenue around 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 15.

The victim told officers that the man put his hands on her mouth, pushed her to the ground, placed his hands around her neck and hit her head on the ground. He then took her purse, which contained credit cards and a tablet computer and fled the scene, police said.

The woman sustained bruising and lacerations to her head and neck, police stated.

She described her attacker as a black male about 6 feet 2 inches, with a slim build, wearing a black hat, green and black jacket and dark blue jeans.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.
