Belleville Police: NY Man Tried To Cash Fake Checks At Bank

Belleville police allegedly found the man in possession of 3 credit cards that didn't belong to him and 4 fake checks.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville police arrested a New York resident after he allegedly tried to cash fake checks at a local bank last month. Officers found the man in possession of three credit cards that didn’t belong to him and four fake checks at the time of his arrest, authorities said.

According to the Belleville Police Department, officers responded to Santander Bank on Washington Avenue around 2:20 p.m. on Nov. 28 after receiving a report about a man trying to cash fraudulent checks.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect - Shakur Pinder, 22 – ran out of the bank and got into a vehicle. He then tried to escape, but police stopped the car a short distance from the bank and took Pinder into custody, authorities said.

Police found Pinder in possession of three credit cards that didn’t belong to him and four fake checks. Authorities charged him with identity theft, forgery, resisting arrest, fraud, and receiving stolen property.
