Belleville School Declared Safe After ‘Unsubstantiated’ Bomb Scare: Authorities
Authorities temporarily evacuated Belleville High School after a student allegedly overheard someone talk about a "suspicious device."

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Authorities temporarily evacuated Belleville High School Thursday afternoon as a “precautionary measure” – clearing the scene soon afterwards – after a student allegedly overheard a conversation regarding a possible suspicious device, officials say.
The Belleville Public School District issued a statement about the evacuation on the district website:
“The high school was evacuated late this afternoon based on a report from a student who overheard a conversation regarding a possible suspicious device. Belleville police and fire were immediately on scene, and as a precautionary measure, an [Essex County] Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit swept the building. Students were dismissed at normal dismissal time. Everyone is safe, the building and campus are cleared, and all evening activities will resume.”
