Belleville Schools Are ‘High Performing’ Under NJQSAC Review
Belleville schools met at least 80% of the weighted indicators in five areas. An ex-board member questioned what it actually means, however.
BELLEVILLE, NJ — The Belleville Public School District has qualified as a “high performing” district under its latest New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum (NJQSAC) review.
According to a Sept. 28 letter from the New Jersey Department of Education, Belleville’s schools have met at least 80 percent of the weighted indicators in each of the five areas of the NJQSAC review process.

- Instruction and Program – 82%
- Fiscal Management – 100%
- Governance – 100%
- Operations – 100%
- Personnel – 97%
The district’s “high performing” score got a shout-out from administrators at Monday’s board of education meeting. However, at least one person at Monday’s meeting questioned the relative merit of the score.
According to former board member Michael Sheldon – who is running for a spot on the board again this year – 585 other school districts in New Jersey, or 98.7 percent, are also considered to be “high performing.”

“High performing – according to their own data – doesn’t really mean anything,” Sheldon opined.
