Belleville Student Brings Bullets Into Middle School, Everyone Safe: Superintendent

BREAKING: The Belleville Middle School had a brief "shelter in place" after a student brought two live cartridges into the building.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Authorities temporarily placed the Belleville Middle School under “shelter in place” status on Monday after a student found a pair of ammunition cartridges outside the building and brought them into the school, authorities said.

Belleville Superintendent Richard Tomko posted a message about the incident on Twitter on Monday morning: “MS was on brief ‘Shelter in Plc’ after a student brought in a few rounds of ammunition that he found outside...everyone is safe. No weapons.”

Tomko told Patch that he didn’t know where the student found the ammo, but said that the pair of live rounds included a “birdshot” cartridge and a “pistol” cartridge.
