Belleville Town Budget Contains Tax Hike For Homeowners

The Belleville Town Council held a public hearing for the 2024 municipal budget, which will come with a tax increase.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The Belleville Town Council held a public hearing for the proposed 2024 municipal budget on Tuesday evening.

If the budget crosses the finish line as written, it will come with a tax increase for homeowners: about $98 for a property assessed at $287,000, according to figures presented at the meeting.

Property taxes in New Jersey are mainly made up of three parts: school, municipal and county. Here’s how that played out in Belleville for 2023, according to state data:

  • School – 38.8%
  • Municipal – 47.8%
  • County – 13.5%
