Nutley, Belleville Under Flood Watches; NJ In State Of Emergency

Belleville and Nutley officials are advising residents to batten down the hatches as a flash flood watch takes place in the area.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville and Nutley officials are advising residents to batten down the hatches as a flash flood watch takes place in the North Jersey area.

The two townships are under a Flash Flood Watch until Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said Essex County could be hit with as much as 2 to 4 inches of rain early this week. The NWS issued a flash flood watch for Essex, Hudson, Passaic, Union counties from 8 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Tuesday. Read More: Flash Flood Watch Issued For Essex County (See Timeline)

Nutley officials noted that residents who want to park their vehicles on higher ground in preparation of the storm can use Municipal Parking Lot 1 overnight. Lot 1 is located off of Centre Street, behind the Nutley Diner.

Nutley public schools were closed Tuesday due to the weather forecast and the governor's State of Emergency.

BELLEVILLE

Belleville officials said residents should:

  • Avoid driving in or around the township during heavy wind and rain conditions
  • Be aware of your surroundings; do not drive on flooded roads or enter any body of water
  • Please DO NOT touch or go near downed wires as they should always be considered live

The Belleville Public School District closed all schools and offices on Tuesday, Oct. 26 due to the forecast of hazardous conditions.
